The recent history of the Department of General and Operative Surgery is associated with actively developing research, which is set as the main target of its members.
The department is the basis for various scientific researches and studies. Since 2007 protected dissertation six – four of “MD” and two for “doctor of medical sciences.” Gone are 5 habilitations.
Under the auspices and organizational efforts of the Department of General and Operative Surgery is held every two years and the traditional National Conference of Coloproctology with international participation.
Scientific Production Department consists mainly in developing and reporting of new methods of diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the digestive tract and biliary-hepatic system. Members of the department are active participants in national and international congresses, export the results of their scientific research on scientific events in the US, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Egypt, Romania and most countries in Europe.
Major scientific fields, mainly based on considerable experience and profile of the department are developments in the diagnosis of colorectal cancer, the opportunities for opening early cancers to improve treatment outcomes, the introduction of new mini-invasive treatments for benign diseases such as hiatal hernia and adrenal neoplasms. With his school and experience Department has become the standard for continuing postgraduate education by conducting courses, some of them based on scientific methods and developments introduced or implemented for the first time in the country by the Department of General and Operative Surgery at the Medical University – Varna.
